Golden Hook Game Review

Players familiar with Crazy Tooth Studio’s The Incredible Balloon Machine will pretty much know what to expect from Golden Hook. It’s a similar burst mechanic release built around the same math model, and with somewhat similar features. The fishing theme makes this one stick out however, and it makes for a more exciting base game than inflating balloons ever was.

Each game round is all about reeling in the fish (you’ll catch one 41.08 % of the time on average) to increase its value for as long as you dare, as the line can snap at any moment. Sometimes multipliers will show up to potentially boost your catch, making it even more tempting to hit the Collect button (and equally more frustrating when the line breaks). The Golden Hook bonus game will also trigger at random times, when the Golden Fish bites.

Golden Hook Game Features & How to Play

You start the game by holding down the big red button set inside the ship’s wheel in the middle of the screen. The Meter needle passes from the red into the blue segment, and the fishing rod then casts its hook into the water. If a fish is not caught the round ends there and then, but if you catch a live one the needle passes into the larger green segment of the meter.

This is when the real fun starts, so to speak, as the game turns into a nail-biting battle between greed and fear of missing out.

You need to hold down the button to keep reeling in the catch, and the cash value of the fish keeps increasing the longer you hold. The line can break at any moment though, which means you lose the prize and the round is over. When you’re happy with the cash prize, simply hit the Collect button on the right-hand side, and it’s yours.

At random times, when you’ve hooked a fish, the Multiplier Feature may trigger. You will then see multiplier values between x2 and x10 spread out across the water, and a random one is selected to boost the fish prize when you hit the Collect button.

At random times a Golden Bonus Fish may bite, and this triggers the Golden Hook Bonus. The game then shifts to a new side-view screen where you get a subsea view of fish swimming and crabs moving along the seabed.

The crabs come with an x2 multiplier, while the various fish come with different cash prizes.

The bonus round will last for a specific time you’ll see on the counter, and all you have to do is lean back as different cash prizes are reeled in. Each fish prize is added to the total, and the feature ends when the time runs out or you catch an x2 crab multiplier. The multiplier is then applied to your total winnings.

The 200 Spins Golden Hook Game Experience

You get to see us lose and win a few catches in what amounts to the base game, and the multiplier feature is triggered at 1:40 into the 3-minute highlights video. Right after, the Golden Hook Bonus is triggered, and you can see for yourself how we fared by hitting the play button below.

Review Summary

As much as we wanted to like this game, being huge fans of the Fishin’ Frenzy series as we are, our fascination soon broke like the fishing line tends to do before you reach a significant prize. The “dead spins”, if you can call it that, is fair game, but even when you do catch a live one it’s just way too risky to inflate the value for very long. Having random values instead would have been more fun, especially if the random values were potentially significant.

Some kind of incremental gamble feature would be a more predictable way of increasing the prize value, but we digress. It boils down to the fact that it just isn’t all that fun to feel that you lose (or miss out) even when you win (by hitting Collect), cause the prize could, in theory and with more guts, have been even bigger. The multiplier feature adds to the frustration when the line breaks, and the Golden Hook bonus seems hard pressed to deliver anything close to the 3,082x win cap.

Pros

  • Greed vs FOMO fishing game
  • Random multipliers up to x10
  • Golden Hook bonus game
  • Win up to 3,082x your stake

Cons

  • Beware of adjustable RTP ranges
  • Turns into frustration real quick

If you appreciate Golden Hook Game you should also try:

The Incredible Balloon Machine - is a very similar greed vs fomo style game from Crazy Tooth Studio, and it’s all about inflating balloon values while avoiding the inevitable ‘pop’.

Golden Hook Slot Gameplay 3444

A bonus multiplier up to x10 can benefit you also here, and you get a pick’em bonus game and the same medium volatility and 3,082x potential.

1000x Busta - is a 4ThePlayer release that’s very similar to the crypto/Bitcoin Crash games, only this one is made for regular casinos. The win multiplier races towards the 1,000x max win, but you can “go bust” at any time if you don’t cash out. The 97 % RTP is a decent selling point, but you lose 99.903 % of the time if you try to go for the win cap.

Aviator - is a very similar ‘burst mechanic’ game from Spribe, but it allows you to interact and chat with other players and participate in tournaments. The curve crash format is visualized by a plane, and live stats are available at all times. The volatility is low to medium, and the theoretical returns clock in at a decent 97 % also in this greed versus fomo release.
