Rocky (Rarestone Gaming) Review
The original Rocky movie is one of the most iconic sports/boxing movies of all time, and Stallone wrote the screenplay in only 3 days after watching Muhammad Ali duke it out with Chuck Wepner. It grossed 225x the $1M budget it was made on, and won 3 Academy Awards. Needless to say, Rocky catapulted Sylvester Stallone into A-list stardom, and 5 follow-up movies were produced (the latest one, Rocky Balboa, was released in 2006).
Rarestone Gaming has clearly decided to go to town with their license, as they have basically rolled all 6 movies into one and the same game. Rocky comes with plenty of movie clips and soundbites, and Ivan Drago, Clubber Lang, and Apollo Creed are the main opponents. Each movie in the franchise gets its own bonus round or feature, and you can win up to a solid 5,000x your stake. This one is well worth checking out for the nostalgia alone, and it’s also one to try if you like plenty of different features.

The premium symbols, consisting of Rocky’s dog Butkus (Stallone’s real dog btw), Ivan Drago (Dolph Lundgren), Clubber Lang (Mr. T), Apollo Creed (Carl Weathers), and Rocky Balboa (Stallone) himself as the top-tier symbol, pay between 0.8 and 1.5 x your stake for 5 of a kind wins.
The Wild symbols can appear anywhere to substitute for pay symbols, but it does not appear in the base game. Landing 5 wilds on a payline awards 15x your stake.Similar Slots:
There are 6 different scatter symbols in this game, and these all represent different movies in the franchise. You get Rocky I, Rocky II, Rocky III, Rocky IV, Rocky V, and Rocky RB scatters, and they appear only in the corner positions. You need 4 scatters of the same type in each corner to trigger the corresponding bonus feature.
The Apollo Creed Bonus Round triggers when you land a Rocky I symbol in each corner, and this awards 8 free spins. There is no way to retrigger this bonus round, but it comes with sticky wilds that remain frozen in place for the duration of the feature when they land.
The Wilds display a black and white horse logo with the inscription “Italian Stallion”.The Heavyweight Bonus triggers from 4 Rocky II scatters, and this is basically a pick ‘em game. You get to pick from a screen with 9 gloves, and these reveal cash prizes or gold coins. The Gold coins give you additional picks, and the feature ends when you run out of picks.
Landing 4 Rocky III scatters in the corner positions triggers the Clubber Lang Bonus Round, and this gives you 6 free spins. This bonus round comes with a special mystery symbol that’s at least 2x2 in size, and it always reveals either Rocky or Clubber Lang symbols.
The Ivan Drago Hold & Respin bonus triggers from 4 Rocky IV scatters, and you start with 3 respins. American and Russian flag gloves, as well as blanks, appear on the grid, and the respins tally resets to 3 each time you land at least one glove. The feature ends when you run out of respins, or when you fill the grid. Each glove awards a cash prize in the end.
Rocky Slot - Multi Wheel FeatureThe Multi Wheel feature triggers from 4 Rocky V scatters in each corner, and this is basically a 3-wheels fortune wheel. You get a cash wheel, a multiplier wheel that boosts the cash prize, and a respin wheel.
A boosted cash prize is guaranteed, but you need the respin symbol to get more than one spin. There is no limit as to how many extra spins you can win with guaranteed multiplier boosted cash prizes per spin. Finally, the Rocky Balboa Training Feature triggers from 4 Rocky RB scatters in the corner positions. It comes with prizes ranging from 1x to 1,000x your stake, and these are stacked on the right-hand side. As Rocky is doing his legendary workouts, a red box climbs the prize stack. You can “push harder” to get better and better prizes, but you risk losing it all per extra push.
Non-UK players, and anyone living in an eligible jurisdiction, may take advantage of the Bonus Buy feature. It will set you back 38x your stake, and this gives you one of the features described above randomly assigned.

There is more than enough nostalgia packed into this game, and it was good fun to be reunited with iconic moments from each of the 6 Rocky movies. Rolling everything into one game, as opposed to rolling out one installment after another, is probably the way to go, as it makes this more of a definitive branded Rocky release. The retro presentation goes well together with this theme, but you don’t get to see too much actual fighting.
It would have been fun to see a real animated fight as at least one of the bonus rounds, and some of them come across as a tad primitive. You get plenty of movie clips and soundbites though, which helps, and we can imagine that obtaining the branded license swallowed a large chunk of the budget for this game. Overall, we had a good time with the slot version of Rocky, but more due to nostalgia than “super impressive” features.
